Album release: The Concert for St. Stephens

Concert for St Stephens album coverOn September 11, 2012, True North Records released a live album of the 2005 concert organized at our church by the Friends of St Stephens. Here is True North’s description of the original event:

“On Sunday September 18th 2005, a remarkable concert event took place in a small Church in Toronto to rescue one of the most important providers of social assistance to the city’s downtown community in need. The Parish of Saint Stephen–in–the–Fields — one of the oldest churches in the city, in one of the poorest neighborhoods — faced a financial crisis after 147 years of continuous service to the community.

Neighbours in Kensington Market, friends across Toronto, media, politicians and a group of exceptional artists and music industry professionals stepped up to help keep the church alive by organizing a concert to raise funds.

It was a night filled with spirited performances in St. Stephen’s, professionally recorded and now available so the event can be experienced by anyone. All proceeds from the sale of this recording are being donated to the church to support their ongoing community services, including: Georgia House, the first women’s shelter in Toronto (1908); Saint Stephen’s Community House (1960); and a food program that serves 10,000 meals a year to the hungry and homeless.”
