New series begins 5 June, 2013
We are opening our doors and bringing music to the community and are pleased to have a wonderful series of noon hour concerts at St. Stephen’s which feature musicians from around the city. The historic Ryder organ will be the focus of this series along with singers and instrumentalists so please come along and enjoy. These free concerts are presented by Music at St. Stephen’s. - Richard Herriott, Piano
Richard HerriottRenowned pianist and composer Richard Herriott is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading Dance Accompanists, having worked with the Northern Ballet and serving as Guest Pianist for the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Lviv State National Ballet Theatre of Ukraine, and most recently The National Ballet of Canada. As a Concert Pianist, his performances are celebrated for his “rich sound”, “expressive temperament”, and “virtuoso technique”. - Eric Osborne, Organ
Eric OsborneA native of St. Mary’s, Ontario, Eric Osborne’s first exposure to the organ and Anglican church music was as a boy chorister at his home parish, St. James. Since then he has studied organ with eminent Canadian, American, and English organists, and possesses a Bachelor of Music Performance degree in organ and church music from the University of Toronto, and an Associateship Diploma of the American Guild of Organists. Between 1997 and 2000 he was the Organ Scholar at Trinity College and the Healey Willan Organ Scholar at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Toronto. - Wed, June 19 2013, 12:35 pm
- Andrew Adair, organ
Andrew AdairOne of the most successful young organists in Canada today, Andrew Adair recently finished a position of interim director at St. James Cathedral—where he played the complete Bach works—and is now interim at St. Mary Magdalene (SMM), Toronto. Andrew had earlier been assistant organist at both SMM and St. James’, during which time he played the organ for Her Majesty The Queen. He studied with John Tuttle at Trinity College.

- John Gardham, Organ; Nicolai Tarasov, Clarinet
John GardhamBorn in Toronto, John Gardham began his musical career as a boy soprano and became interested in the organ at a young age. He studied voice and theories at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Organ teachers include Dr. Melville Cook and Gerald Webster. John has sung with Tafelmusik and the Exultate Chamber Singers under the direction of John Tuttle. He was director of music at St. Stephen’s from 1980 to 1996 and recently returned to the position. As a trained pipe organ technician John spends many hours keeping the 1888 Ryder organ at St. Stephen’s in playing condition.
Nicolai TarasovNicolai Tarasov studied at the Gnessin School of Music and the Russian Academy of Music in Moscow. A laureate of the All-Union Woodwind Competition in Minsk, he was a performer with many USSR orchestras. Since arriving in Canada, Nicolai pursues a diverse career as a multi-instrumentalist, playing baroque, classical and modern clarinet, baroque oboe and recorder. He has appeared with leading early music groups in Canada and the United States, including Tafelmusik, Opera Atelier, Gotham City Baroque Orchestra, Te Deum Orchestra, Aradia Ensemble, and performed as part of the Boston Early Music Festival and the Genesse Early Music Society concert series. - Wed, July 3 2013, 12:35 pm
- Simon Walker, organ
Simon WalkerSimon Walker is from the United Kingdom and started his musical training as a chorister at Durham Cathedral. From September 2005 he studied music at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2009. During this time he spent three years as Organ Scholar of St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral and also as Accompanist to Edinburgh University Music Society Chorus. From September 2009 he spent a year as Organ Scholar of Chester Cathedral. Simon moved to Toronto in 2010 and has previously served as Assistant Organist at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene before taking up the position of Director of music at St. Jude’s Church Oakville. Simon holds the Associate diploma of the Royal College of Organists and can frequently be heard in recital in Toronto at venues including St. James Cathedral and Yorkminster Park Baptist Church. - Wed, July 10 2013, 12:35 pm

Kevin HenkelKevin Henkel is an artist and musician he has been honing his skills for over 10 years live and in the studio. Jazz, soul, and funk are his primary styles and influences. In the studio he plays guitar, bass, keyboards and just about anything available to him. Live he plays jazz piano three times a week performing his own compositions as well as interpretations of well known songs. Thomas GonderJ. Thomas D. Gonder, born in Cayuga, Ontario in 1971, exhibited musical gifts at an extremely early age. He spent most of his life in London, Ontario, his family having relocated there in 1981. Immediately becoming involved in the musical life of St. Paul’s Cathedral, he spent many years there as a chorister, Organ Scholar, Assistant Organist, and Organist and Master of the Choristers. Thomas quickly rose to the forefront of the Canadian Organ scene as one of its brightest young performers shortly after his public debut at the age of 15 under the tutelage of D. Mervyn Games. His teachers and mentors also include David Palmer, Ian Sadler, William S.J. McArton, Catherine Crozier, Simon Preston, Naji Hakim and Gerald Bales. - Wed, July 24 2013, 12:35 pm

Edmee NataprawiraEdmee Nataprawira is a young and aspiring musician with a wide range of musical interests. Her first explorations of music began at the piano, where she continues to flourish under the direction of Midori Koga. Edmee has achieved certificates of distinction in piano, history, and theory from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Ted MoroneyEdward Moroney continues his eclectic career as an organist-choirmaster, accompanist and music educator in Toronto. A graduate of the University of Toronto in Composition and vocal music education, he studied with John Beckwith, Derek Holman, Oskar Morawetz and Lloyd Bradshaw. When a chorister at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Moroney studied organ with Victor Togni, and at the university with Charles Peaker and Douglas Bodle.
